Bhagavad_Gita

The Bhagavadgita is the most revered and likely the most important single source in the yoga tradition. Its message is beautiful, complex, and worth every effort. Clothed in the guise of a conversation between the warrior Arjuna and his compatriot Krishna, it is the narrative of the Self, the opportunity to look deeply in the heart and to return to the world with renewed understanding and clarity of purpose. But as a conversation it is best studied in conversation and that is what we will do in this seminar. Reading together the Bhagavadgita with a new annotated study guide, we’ll consider a Tantric interpretation of the text that allows us to appreciate it in a radical and transformational way. Join us for this conversation. All you need to bring is yourself, an open mind, and a willing heart: the Celestial’s Song will provide the rest. No previous experience is necessary or expected; a copy of Douglas’s Poised For Grace, though not required, will serve you well. Copies available at the studio for purchase.

Douglas_BrooksDr. Douglas Brooks is among the world's leading scholars of Hindu Tantrism and the esoteric traditions of the Goddess. He received his Masters and PhD from Harvard University's Center for the Study of World Religions where he studied with several of the world's leading scholars of Sanskrit and Indian studies. Dr. Brooks is the author of several scholarly books on Hinduism and Tantra, and is currently Professor of Religion at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.

1:00 - 3:00 PM

Taught by Ginger Doughty & Richard Schultz

Donations will go to Partners in Health, an organization working to bring modern medical care to poor communities in nine countries around the world. PIH has been working on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years. $20 suggested donation per person ($40/couple), but all donations are welcome.
