So you want to go deeper with your practice and pull together the many threads of what you have learned in class...

Anusara Yoga Immersion and Teacher Training

2010 - 2011

The Immersion

The Anusara Immersion is for any student who wishes to take their practice to another, deeper level. To go deeper doesn't mean you need to become a yoga teacher...the Immersion offers a 100-hour curriculum covering of the primary components of a well rounded practice: philosophy study, alignment practice, anatomy, pranayama & meditation practices.

Anusara Yoga Immersions invite you to cross a threshold of deepening your yoga practice on every level. Through focused study of asana (yoga poses) using the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment, the inspiring Tantric philosophy, and conversation with a supportive community (kula) of like-minded and like-hearted yogis, you will be invited to awaken to your true nature as a spiritual being. This program promises to be a rich and transformative experience!

For students who DO desire to teach, the Immersion Program establishes a solid foundation from which to skillfully share yoga and is the first step on the pathway to teaching Anusara yoga. The Immersion is the Teacher Training prerequisite and the Carolina Yoga Teacher Training School (RYS-200) requires a separate application and completion of an entrance exam and will be offered in the Fall 2011.

The Immersion Curriculum includes but is not limited to:

  • Full range of asana practice (Level 1 & 2 syllabi) and study
  • Universal Principles of Alignment of Anusara Yoga
  • Loops, Spirals, and Focal Points
  • Yoga philosophy, including the life-affirming Tantric philosophy that underlies Anusara, the history of yoga, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, and the Bhagavad Gita
  • Study of the chakra system and energy anatomy
  • Pranayama and meditation theory and practice
  • Anatomy & physiology

Each 11-hour weekend includes 5 hours of asana and 6 hours of a combination of philosophy lecture and discussion, pranayama and meditation practices, anatomy, and journaling. Suggested readings will be included throughout the course.

Required text: Master Immersion Manual by John Friend, which is available by download by calling the Anusara office at 888-398-9642. Please download this manual and bring it with you to the first weekend.

TESTIMONIALS

  • This morning, I feel very focused, grounded, and clear about what I am doing and why-- and I know that broad pulse was purposive on your parts, in the way that you sequenced and structured the whole process.  The notion that I am walking away from this process with now is that I want to be the best custodian of this that I can be. I so look forward to continuing this conversation with each of you! – Annie W.
  • You obviously took so much care in your planning and you worked beautifully together.  The experience was thrilling to me.  I woke up about 3:00a.m. with a feeling of sparklers in my chest and abdomen !  It was an amazing experience and I just imagined something good had been turned loose in me as a result of the weekend. – Betsy F
  • What a fantastic weekend.  I am already counting the days until March.  The knowledge and energy that the 3 of you have is unbelievable.  I just want to stand next to you and hope that some of it will just enter my brain.            – Betsey W.
