The purpose of the Global Mala Yoga for Peace is to unite the global yoga community from every continent, school or approach to form a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108 as the yoga world's offering to further the UN International Peace Day.

The documentary film,Anusara Yoga: The Heart of Transformation,” gives an inside glimpse into the development and principles of one of today’s most popular styles of yoga. Inspired by the stories of transformation they were hearing from Anusara students around the world, filmmakers Saraswati and Kate Clere decided to look into what makes this system of yoga so effective and life-altering. Featuring John Friend, Dr. Timothy Mccall, Dr. Douglas Brooks, Sally Kempton, Krishna Das and a fun cast of Anusara’s most dedicated teachers and practitioners.  The film is narrated by Minnie Driver with music by Shantala (Benjy & Heather Wertheimer), Dave Stringer and Ty Burhoe. You are invited to bring something comfortable to sit on...or we have blankets, etc. for your use.

Exploring Svatantrya:

Freedom From Suffering Through Yoga Philosophy, Asana and Meditation

Saturday, October 30th

1:00-5:00

$60

Taught by Annie Wright, Ph.D & Anusara-inspired instructor and

Jemme Stewart, RYT-200, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric Nursing, LPC

Open to all levels of experience

As a spiritual tradition, yoga teaches us to dwell in equaniminty, free from suffering.  But how do we really achieve this in our fast-paced modern lives?  This workshop will explore the concept of svatantrya, the teaching that we are intrinsically free to choose our own paths in life… to choose how we will respond to even the most challenging of life circumstances, and ultimately, how we choose to set ourselves free from suffering.  Through teaching and discussion of yoga philosophy, we will address the provocative notion that while pain in various forms is inevitable, whether we suffer in our lives is actually a choice we can make.

This workshop will include didactic components, journaling and small group discussion as well as yoga asana, meditation and relaxation.

Bring a journal and something to write with, as well as something you prefer to sit on.

For students who want to explore these issues more deeply and in a smaller, more therapeutic environment:

Starting the day after the workshop, we will offer a class/therapy series that will serve as a follow up to this workshop. Ideally, we encourage you to sign up for the workshop and the series of follow up classes ahead of time.  This therapeutic class will continue to incorporate teachings, discussion, and journaling along with meditation and yoga asana designed for all levels.

Jemme will offer the therapeutic class Sunday evenings for 8 weeks leading into the holidays:

Oct 31, Nov 7, Nov 14, Nov 21, Nov 28, Dec 5, Dec 12, Dec 19
